Bioware announced the next episode of Mass Effect 2 DLC today, and sadly it doesn't involve Liara. It does however feature a rampant virtual intelligence / human hybrid that that is attacking Cerberus bases.
The Overlord DLC begins with Shepard investigating a Cerberus base that has gone silent. Upon arrival, Shepard is greeted by a platoon of Geth who have overrun the base. The sole survivor of the attack, Chief Scientist Archer, explains that the cause of the attack is yet another Cerberus experiment. This time Cerberus attempted to fuse a human volunteer with a VI. Synthetics fused with Organics, that sounds crazy!
The now rampant hybrid "VI overlord" has been attacking Cerberus bases by controlling surrounding synthetics in an attempt to break free. It's going to be up to Shepard to infiltrate the VI's fortress and shut it down before it beams itself off planet.
The episode will unfold over five new level areas and offers two new achievements. While a firm date hasn't been set, it will be released sometime in June and set you back 560 MS points ($7.00.)
